Has the SARS CoV-2 virus been isolated?

This discussion follows on from a previous post on where the mRNA used in the test and vaccines, comes from. A murky background indeed.

The foundation of the use of PCR tests for diagnosis and to determine prevalence rates is under dispute. In Vaccines Revealed (VR) Episode 6, Dr Thomas Cowan explains how people have sent him citations of around 20 peer-reviewed papers published in medical and scientific journals, where scientists assert that they have isolated this alleged novel coronavirus. This prompted Cowan, together with journalist Thorsten Englebrecht, to  contact some of the authors to check if the steps generally agreed upon to isolate the virus had been followed – invariably the answer has been no. With regard to a paper published in Nature, Cowan recounts (in the VR interview cited earlier) that the authors acknowledged:

“We did not obtain an electron micrograph showing the degree of purification,” which is considered an essential step of proof.

Another paper about an alleged isolate, from a patient in South Korea, was written by the Korean Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (“Identification of Coronavirus Isolated from a Patient in Korea with COVID-19 by Kim JM et al., published in February 2020). Cowan and Englebrecht asked if they had in fact isolated the virus and the response was: “We could not estimate the degree of purification because we could not purify and concentrate the virus.” Cowan comments: “In other words, they have no virus.”

Then there is a Canadian paper asserting isolation of the corona virus: “Isolation, Sequence, Infectivity, and Replication Kinetics of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2” by Banerjee A, Nasir JA, Budylowski P, Yip L, Aftanas P, Christie N, et al. However, Cowan’s freedom of information request to the Canadian Health Ministry could find no record of isolation related to this paper. As Cowan points out, however, this did not stop the media reporting that the virus has been isolated.

To understand the issues regarding isolation it is worth listening to the full VR interview with Cowan and he has also written a statement on this on his website.

Here is an article on the issues related to the PCR test, that also raises similar concerns to that of Cowan.

Here is an article where Engelbrecht, together with Konstantin Demeter, write up their findings, after speaking to further authors of various papers, where they had also claimed to have isolated the virus, but when questioned, also acknowledged they had not used, or had not had access to, purified virus.

An excellent article that provides a concise summary of the issues regarding isolation is by Iain Davis on UK Column.

Iain Davis discusses the issue of isolation in an article on UK Column

If you have not isolated the virus, you have no way of knowing if it causes disease. And the test to identify the virus you have never isolated is not false positive or false negative, it’s just good old fashioned false. It’s meaningless. So, that’s where we are. I could go into how they misled themselves into thinking they had a virus, but this is scientific fraud.

You can also see the previous post for more details on this issue. The lack of isolation calls into question the entire basis for testing and for development of vaccines. Further issues with the tests are discussed in the next blog post.
